A LOCAL STUDIO, A REAL STORY

Start with your art.

Toon Director composes and animates artwork you supply. Once the editor is loaded, editing and rendering run on this device. Imported artwork, audio, and projects stay in your browser.

  1. Import your world. Add full-scene illustrations, transparent character cutouts, video clips, recorded voices, and music. The quality and style of your original art define the film’s look.
  2. Keep characters consistent. Open Characters, create a character, and add drawings as poses. Supply front, side, rear, close-up, and expression variants from the same design. The editor reuses this artwork; it does not generate new drawings or unseen poses offline.
  3. Compose each shot. Add layers, set their order, and position the artwork. Keyframe a layer’s position, scale, rotation, and opacity. Add a subtle breathe, float, or sway movement. Camera presets add pushes and pans.
  4. Tell the story in scenes. Add or duplicate scenes. Change their order, durations, and transitions. Use close-ups, rear views, and full-frame illustrations as separate shots.
  5. Give it a voice. Choose scene audio and a talking character. Optional open and closed mouth overlays react to voice volume. Add a subtitle for the scene and music across the film. The mouth effect is not phoneme-accurate lip sync.
  6. Save and export. Work autosaves in this browser using local IndexedDB storage. Save an editable project to keep a portable JSON copy with embedded media. Export PNG frames or a film with audio. WebM and MP4 availability is checked in your browser.
For an illustrated narrative film

Prepare a matching set of backgrounds and character views, then compose them into a sequence of wide shots and close-ups. Fully illustrated stills, transparent cutouts, and existing video can all be part of the same story.
